Tether is a reader
for Android.
Closed testing on Google Play
Add an article, RSS feed, block of text, PDF, or EPUB. Tether strips out the usual web clutter and keeps everything in a library on your phone. There are no ads and no Tether account.
You can read the full article or use RSVP mode, which shows one word at a time. Hold the screen to read, lift your finger to pause, and swipe up whenever you want the full page back.
Tether is currently in a small closed test on Google Play.
Read one word at a time
RSVP stands for Rapid Serial Visual Presentation. Tether shows each word in the same place at a speed you choose. Hold to read and lift to pause. There is no tiny play button to find halfway through a sentence.
When you pause, Tether shows the words around your current position. Drag left or right to move through the text one word at a time.
Switch back to the article
Swipe up to see the complete article. Headings and paragraphs stay in place, and the word you just read remains highlighted. Both reading modes use the same position.
Tap a word to continue in RSVP mode from there. You can also pinch to change the text size, adjust line spacing, and hide the controls.
Pick up where you left off
Tether remembers your place and the reading mode you used for each item. Pin something, put it in a collection, or save it from Android's share sheet and come back later.
- Highlights and notes stay attached to their passage.
- Article titles can be renamed without losing the original text.
- A daily reading goal is available if you want one.
- Export and import a backup of the whole library.
Articles, feeds, PDFs, and EPUBs
Paste a URL, share one from your browser, or paste the text itself when a page does not extract properly. PDF and EPUB files can be opened directly from your phone.
You can also follow RSS feeds. New posts appear in Tether and can be added to your library like any other article.
Set it up for your eyes
- One-tap presets for common reading setups.
- Optional focus-letter emphasis in two strengths.
- Tint overlays in cream, blue, green, and peach.
- A reading ruler for staying on the current line.
- Lexend, Atkinson Hyperlegible, Literata, DM Mono, and OpenDyslexic.
- Light, dark, and high-contrast themes.
Changes appear immediately and are saved automatically. RSVP and full-page text sizes are separate, so changing one does not make the other view awkward.
